My Kind of Town

I just got back from a week away. We visited family and friends in Chicago, and made a stop along the way at the Wisconsin Dells.

Side note: while I was thrilled to see my kids having such a blast (and they had a serious blast!), the Dells grosses me out. Don’t get me wrong, the accommodations are nice. But the thought of all that water dripping off scuzzy bodies had me on edge the entire time. Anyone else ever feel that way at water parks?

But it was a really lovely trip, with trips into the city and lots of hours spent in the pool at Papa and Grammy’s house. I got to catch up with friends at brunch in Wicker Park, and took in a ballgame at US Cellular (sadly, the White Sox lost). We spent time with extended family we rarely see, and got to hang out with two sets of grandparents. I sported crazy vacation hair the entire time, and wore a swim suit more than anything else. Plus, we only had one bout of carsickness the entire trip! All in all, our trip was a success.

Are you traveling anywhere fun this summer?

  • I love the way light plays such a huge role in photography. It can make or break a photo – too little and you wind up with a grainy pic, too much and you’re overexposed. My favorite is when the sun is at the perfect spot in the sky and it creates a natural bokeh… [Continue Reading]

  • Hey guys, I’m excited to be posting on Wild Ruffle today for Cate. I blog about life, advocating for the orphan, thrifting and crafts over at A Harvest of Blessing. I “met” Cate online a few months back when she was looking for an organization to partner up with in Uganda and I was excited… [Continue Reading]

  • I purchased these pleather shorts from H&M last fall and wore them a couple of times. But lately, they’ve become my favorite thing to put on. Though the first time I donned them, my oh-so-funny hubby gathered the kids around him and said in an oh-so-serious voice, “Kids, I have sad news. Your mommy has… [Continue Reading]

  • As I type, the sun is finally peeking out through the clouds, and it looks like it’s going to be a pretty darn nice day here in Minnesota. Dare I say – it may even feel like summer? Warmer temps mean showing off those toes, and that means I better touch up the polish before… [Continue Reading]

  • I’ve done my fair share of complaining about the rain. But yesterday, I did nothing of the sort. We didn’t see any sunshine – in fact, it absolutely dumped buckets of rain here in Minnesota. But after a long trip home from a funeral, I was so ready for a quiet morning at home. Besides,… [Continue Reading]

4 Reasons To Be Ok With the Rain

Comments

  1. We visited Wisconsin Dells a little over a year ago for the first time. I felt the exact same way and still do about all waterparks. Great pics and sounds like you had a fun filled vacation!

  2. Sometimes for me it isn’t the water itself but the locker/bathroom/changing room facilities at water parks, they can be kind of scuzzy feeling!

Looks like you had a fun trip!

  3. yeah for chicago! we are in the suburbs and actually rarely go downtown. I’d feel the same way about the dells! glad you guys had a good time!

  4. I’d call only one episode of carsickness a success, for us it would be anyway! Looks like a really fun time. I too get the heebie jeebies at places like that. I don’t let my kids into restaurant play areas because our local one had lice! Ew!!!!! Here’s to a great week!!
