The Blob

I like to fancy myself a nail artiste, but the truth is that I’m too impatient (and too shaky handed) to come up with anything intricate.

That’s why I was excited when I came up with this blob mani. No specific lines to follow – that’s my kind of mani. I used neon colors since I’ve been admiring so many manicures in bright shades out there right now.

The trick to this was to start with a white base. That way all the colors appeared more opaque, and I only had to use one coat of everything. Then I just dabbed away with each individual shade (I started with yellow, then added orange, blue, and pink). I had no rhyme or reason for placing colors anywhere – and that’s exactly what I was hoping for!

I think this DIY spa treatment is also in order, after logging so many hours in the pool lately – my hands are kind of a mess!

Have you tried any fun manicures lately? Any tips to share with the rest of us? I’d love to see your pictures!

  • Sometimes it’s the little details that make the outfit. The flutter sleeve. The ombre earring. A super tall pair of shoes. And my little four year old daughter capturing it all on film. Remember when I shared this? Hard to believe a full school year has already passed! top – via swap, earrings – H&M,… [Continue Reading]

  • It should come to no surprise to anyone that I have a thing for shoes. I’ve shared my love for my favorite ones here as well as my tips for organizing them. If there’s one item I’m saving my pennies for, it’s shoes. So when ShoeDazzle shared with me how their personal styling program works,… [Continue Reading]

  • These are a little past due – since I’ve been home for over a month now. But I promised to show pictures from my trip to Paris (check out my London pics here), and I’ve finally found time to do so. While there, I had one of the best meals of my life at a… [Continue Reading]

    Pardon My French
  • I was clearing out old photos and realized I never posted these pictures! Clearly, they are from at least a week ago, since there’s still snow on the ground (that’s a little MN humor, since our winter lasted for approximately forever this year!). Beginning soon, my pics will include my new updated hair. I’m back… [Continue Reading]

  • I love to use mason jars in all kinds of ways. We drink out of them. I use them as vases. They’re an easy vessel for candles. And what’s cuter than a little token of friendship, planted in a mason jar and tied up with a burlap strip? Not much, I tell ya. In honor… [Continue Reading]

Has anyone tried Shallack? I can’t grow nails and was wondering if that would help so I can polish them this cute way!!!

    • I haven’t tried it, but have always been curious to try because my nail polish comes off so quickly. I have heard that it’s REALLY hard to get off when you’re ready to get it off, and that it’s best to get it professionally done.

  4. Very neat (and easy) idea…it looks like modern art!

  7. That is really cute and unexpected!!! I haven’t done my nails in years. Then, recently, I discovered Essie (I know I’m behind) and now I’m slightly obsessed. I’m wearing Turquoise and Caicos right now… really fun! :)

Have you seen this tutorial on creating a gradient nail? Looks so great. http://www.thenailasaurus.com/2012/04/gradient-nails-picture-tutorial.html#more
