WR Fitness Series – Work It Like a MN Vikings Cheerleader

We’re back, with another edition of the Wild Ruffle fitness series.

Today, Theresa Baugus, coach of the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders, along with current cheerleader Alissa, share how those girls stay fit.

Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders 2013-2014 roster

Do you ever wonder how the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders keep their energy and stamina through game day? These ladies dance and cheer for 3 hours during a home game, and that’s after they have a 2 hour rehearsal before the game even starts! The MVC are IN SHAPE!

You too, can train like a Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader.

The MVC are trained by a team of highly educated and experienced trainers from Lifetime Fitness  that facilitate and motivate this elite group of ladies through two workouts a week at their pracitices. The focus of each workout may vary, with exercises such as resistance training, cardio, strength, and yoga for flexibility. Because Lifetime is the official fitness and nutrition sponsor of the MVC, they have access to the best advice, trends, and trainers in the industry. Each MVC is individually coached to achieve her goals and best level of fitness. In addition to Lifetime workouts, the MVC also practice for 2 hours, 3 days a week, learning and perfecting their dance routines for games.

The MVC Power Test

Four times a year, the MVC are tested on a series of challenges to assess their strength and endurance. Here’s what the test entails:

- 5k run in under 30 minutes

- 100 yd sprint in under 16 seconds

- minimum of 3 pull ups in 30 seconds

- 2 minute wall sit

- 2 minute plank

- 50 yd bear crawl in 30 seconds

- sprints to the 10, 20, and 30 yard lines in 25 seconds

- 30 pushups in 50 seconds

- 40 situps in 60 seconds

- splits in all 3 directions for flexibility testing

Would you be able to pass?

The Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders are the whole package – intelligent, well spoken, poised, beautiful, confident, healthy, and fit women. As ambassadors of the Minnesota Vikings, the MVC work hard and strive to live a healthy lifestyle.

  1. Ha! OK, let me go feel bad about myself now. :) I would most certainly not pass. But then again, I don’t have their legs or abs so…maybe I should get busy on this workout!

  2. I’m not sure if I would pass the sprints and pull ups, but the splits I still have! (and I was actually college roommates with one of the girls, such a sweetheart).

  3. i think i would pass…on a good day at least! =)
